MSCEIT

The MSCEIT — emotional intelligence measured as an ability.

The Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT), published by MHS, measures emotional intelligence through performance tasks rather than self-report, based on the ability model of Mayer and Salovey.

Who it's for: Leaders and professionals where emotional skill matters most — and organisations wanting an objective EI measure.
How it works

The four branches

The MSCEIT measures four branches: Perceiving emotions, Using (facilitating) emotions, Understanding emotions and Managing emotions.

Because answers are scored against expert and general consensus rather than self-ratings, it shows how well someone actually solves emotional problems — not just how they see themselves.

Common questions

Before you get in touch

Why use an ability test instead of a questionnaire?

Self-report reflects how people see themselves, which can differ from how they perform. The MSCEIT measures performance directly; the two approaches complement each other.

Measure emotional intelligence objectively.
